Developing Tomorrow’s 911 Leaders Today

FORMAT: 1 Year, Hybrid (In-person; Online)

As the emergency telecommunications industry continues to mature, servant leadership will be needed to guide comm centers through what promises to be unpredictable waters. 

The High Performance Academy prepares tomorrow’s leaders at all levels by focusing on behavior change today and grounding participants in critical skill sets necessary for the future.

This training applies to call takers, dispatchers, supervisors, managers or directors with strong leadership potential. The High Performance Academy requires real commitment and will challenge participants to expand their vision and step up their game.

In-person Orientation

An intensive orientation will be held at the Mayan Ranch in Bandera, TX, from February 3-7, 2025. Attendance at the orientation is mandatory in order to continue in the program. 

Accountability Partners

At the orientation, participants will be divided into accountability groups of 4-5 participants. These small groups will be together for the entirety of the program, motivating each other to reach their goals. 

Quarterly Goals

At the orientation, participants will identify and commit to personal and professional goals to be met each quarter of the program.

Video-recorded, online modules include:

Personal Development and Well-Being

  • Managing personal finances

  • Improving health, nutrition, and exercise

  • Increasing productivity in a world of distractions

Professional Growth and Communication

  • Improving interpersonal communication skills

  • Learning fundamentals of public speaking

  • Understanding traditional and social media

Leadership and Organizational Insight

  • Developing critical thinking skills and improving decision making

  • Understanding organizational culture

  • Exploring principles of leadership

Resources include:

  • Live monthly Zoom calls are an opportunity for participants to check in, share news about their progress, support each other, and participate in the Q&A session. Calls will be recorded and sent to all participants.

  • Modules will be presented as customized online video content created for this program. Modules include quizzes that participants must pass before proceeding to the following module.

  • Motivational audio recordings will be provided to participants that will help them navigate stress, struggle, and failure, and help them celebrate successes, accomplishments, and victories.

  • Additional video material, such as TED Talks and motivational videos, will be provided. Each participant will receive a paid subscription to the 10-module Building Financial Strength in First Responder Families hosted by Financial Cop.

  • Participants will be required to read several books in the course of the year. The books will be provided during orientation at the ranch.

    Participants are expected to follow a practice of journaling throughout the program. Journal reflections will be shared with the small-group accountability partners.

  • Participants will be required to listen to selected podcast episodes in the course of the year.

  • Participants will be required to submit a video at the end of the program outlining how they have changed in the course of the program. They will also be required to present in writing a detailed idea on how to improve their comm center.


  • Guest presenters, both in-person at the ranch and online, include:

    • Financial management specialists

    • Health, nutrition, and exercise specialists

    • Leaders in emergency telecommunications

    • Experts in traditional and social media

This is not a program for:

  • Those who are not willing to work hard 

  • People who are constantly negative about their circumstances

This program does not assume that participants will want to advance up the chain. They may remain a call taker, dispatcher, supervisor, or manager for their entire career. Great leadership is needed at all levels.
