Joe has trained government employees for more than 15 years, currently working through his company, Government Leadership Training (GLT). His audiences have included HR directors, city managers, city council members, mayors, newly elected officials, city and county department heads, mid-management, and line staff. He has trained at the federal level, including the FBI (Federal Bureau of Investigation), ATF (Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives), DEA (Drug Enforcement Administration), and others. He was coordinator of the U.S. Department of State’s International Law Enforcement Academy (ILEA) in Roswell, New Mexico.

The 360 Dispatcher (9-1-1 Training)

Joe has been a leading trainer for 9-1-1 dispatchers across the U.S. and Canada for ten years. He delivers classes on leadership, communication, and wellness, among other topics. He has spent more than 100 hours monitoring calls in comm centers, interviewing supervisors, and talking with dispatchers. He is co-author of Dispatcher Stress: 50 Lessons on Beating the Burnout, and co-author of the forthcoming books: Dispatch Supervisor: 50 Lessons on Being a Great Leader, Dispatch Culture: 50 Lessons on Inspiring Excellence, and Dispatch Training: 50 Lessons on Being a Great Teacher. He is host of the six-month 9-1-1 Supervisor Leadership Academy. He also runs the 9-1-1 Leadership Training Event, 9-1-1 Best Practices: Leadership in Action, and the Changing 9-1-1 Culture Workshop, all of which are held at the Mayan Ranch in Bandera, Texas.

Joe is the creator and principle author of the Get the Nerve series of books, which includes titles on managing fear and resistance, improving emotional intelligence, increasing productivity, enhancing resilience, and improving public speaking.

SECURITY CONSULTING IN RUSSIA

Joe was the only American to work in the Organized Crime Control Department of the Soviet National Police. He was consultant to and later director of the Moscow office of the world’s leading corporate investigation and business intelligence firm. He also served as a CIA agent in Russia for five years. Joe is the author of Investigating the Russian Mafia and Vodka, Hookers, and the Russian Mafia: My Life in Moscow.

MEDIA CONSULTANT

While living in Moscow, Joe worked as a media consultant to the New York Times, Washington Post, CNN, BBC, Fox News, and other media outlets. He worked on three documentaries for A&E’s Investigative Reports, and has appeared on 48 Hours, IDTV/Discovery+, A&E, CNN, NBC, in the New York Times, Washington Post, Chicago Tribune, The European, Condé Nast Traveler, Sol de Mexico, The Legal Realm (China), Nippon Sekai (Japan), and many others. In the U.S., he created a one-week media training program for government employees, using mock press conferences and one-on-one interviews in addition to classroom sessions.
