When I first traveled to the Soviet Union, my friends said, “Where do you get the nerve to go there? We’d be too scared.”
That phrase, Get the Nerve, stuck with me for a long time. The problem was, for too many years I didn’t really have the nerve to do half the things I wanted. At the beginning, going to Russia was easy because I was running away from things. It didn’t feel like it took much nerve at all.
I didn’t Get the Nerve to start doing the things I really wanted to until after I was 30 years old, and a lot of them didn’t happen until well past my 40th birthday. [Read more…]
